POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING
Flagstone SCC is a proud Positive Behaviour for Learning School that seeks to set high expectations for learners through a values centric approach to social and emotional learning development. Our key PBL values are
- We Learn
- Do our Best
- Show Respect to Self and Others
- Respect our School
These values unite parents, students and school staff together in a common set of beliefs and language to support the development of a positive school culture. We reward students for their adherence to these values through our Culture of Learning points which culminate in the purchase of prizes, raffle tickets and participate in our end of term rewards day. This end of term Rewards Day will be a house fun run on the last day of term.
ANTI-BULLYING PROGRAM
Adolescence is a developmental period of exploration, growth and transformation for young people. This is period in which young people require significant support and guidance as they develop into adults. This period sees significant hormonal, physical and social shifts occur often over a very short period of time. These changes also often are accompanied by changes in peer and social relationships. To support young people gain an understanding around the socially appropriate behaviours to engage in that allow all people to feel safe and a sense of belonging, we are introducing a new anti-bullying program.
This program is explicit in the behaviours that are valued and rewarded, and those which are detrimental to the creation of this safe, supportive and inclusive culture. To support students to gain insight and understanding around the impact of their behaviours on others, we have designed several short intervention models that aim to explicitly educate young people around:
- the impact of their behaviours on others and the culture
- gain an understanding of their emotions and how these influence decisions making and relationship formation
- develop a knowledge of themselves and their strengths and attributes
- explore more appropriate strategies to respond to their emotions and resolve issues
- mediation and conflict resolution
- positive psychology and mindfulness
- restoration
These modules will be completed during recess or negotiated time after school.

CLASSROOM PROBLEM SOLVING TEAMS
On the last day of term, our teachers will come together to collaborate to know our learners and establish common learning routines and practices for their classrooms, including such things as seating plans and use of learning walls. This is an invaluable time for teachers to share knowledge around learners, engage with data, review student support plans and provisions to support the creation of positive and engaging classrooms.
FRIDAY WEEK 10 – STUDENT EARLY DEPARTURE
To support this collaboration time, students will be released early from school, able to depart from 11:30am onwards. Supervision will be provided for students who are unable to depart early on this day.

NEWS FROM THE SENIOR DP DESK

The year has well and truly started and the senior school (year 11 and 12) has had a very settled start, with few hiccups.
Both year levels have had exposure to university groups coming out to discuss what university life is like and have students continue to think about their pathways. Year 11 at the moment is going through a series of discussions from head space around getting themselves ready for life in senior and beyond.
This year has seen the commencement of the Plumbing/Construction course and the Automotive course run by external providers, and we have a number of students engaged in these programs.
Senior Leaders are participating in the Leadership Retreat on 31 March for three days, where they will get together and decide on future actions, they want to take to enhance the school and make it a great school. Students will lead own activities, but also participate in organising meals and working together in a great hike over which ends with views of the Gold Coast.
FEES
A reminder that fee payment is essential, whether in full or with a payment plan. Year 12 students know that no fees means no formal, so this needs to be finalise by September 4. Year 11 students need to finalise fees before eligibility for senior jerseys in semester two.

NEWS FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL YEAR 9 & 10

Our year 9 and 10 students are in the process of finalising the term 1 units of work. This is a time for our students to be focused on asking for feedback and completing assessment pieces. We will be using student results from this term to begin planning both the JET and SET processes in the school.
Next term our year 10 students will begin the process to select their senior subjects. This will involve students attending workshops and presentations as part of their SEL program to inform their subject choices. Further information will be advertised in term 2 regarding these processes.
Our year 9 students will be receiving permission paperwork for the semiformal this term. The semiformal will be in week 10 of term 4. Students are receiving the paperwork to give families time to prepare and fund the semiformal. As the year progresses, we will release further information from the semiformal committee.
Our PBL rewards program for year 9 will see one of our students receive a half price semi formal ticket in week 10 of this term. This will happen in term 2 and 3 as well. Students who have met the target for Culture Of Learning points in year 9 will go into a live raffle on the year parade to select the lucky student.
Our community consultation regarding mobile phones at Flagstone has provided us with clear feedback regarding students having ‘phones away for the day’. We are in the process of changing some of our policy and procedure from this feedback and I will advertise the outcome of this process in the first newsletter of term 2.
I wish our students and their families a safe and relaxing easter break and look forward to our year 9 and 10 students returning to school for the start of term 2 on the 22nd of April 2025.

NEWS FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL YEAR 7 AND 8

NEARING THE END OF TERM ONE!
Who can believe how quickly this term has flown by? Our Year 7s have settled into high school life beautifully, getting involved in events, sports, and even a leprechaun hunt this week!
This term, our Year 7s and 9s also participated in NAPLAN. I was truly impressed by their focus and behaviour during the testing. A big thank you to all the parents who helped their students download the required browser—your support made a big difference!
UPCOMING CAMP – SPOTS STILL AVAILABLE
A reminder that our camp is coming up in Week 3 of next term. There are still places available, so if your child would like to attend and you haven’t yet paid, please contact the office or our Year Coordinator, Mr. Dominko.
MOBILE PHONES – A SCHOOLWIDE FOCUS
In the coming weeks, we’ll be reinforcing the expectation that mobile phones remain switched off and out of sight between 9 AM and 3 PM. Phones can be a major distraction, and social media use during school hours can lead to wider issues. Parents, if you need to reach your child during the day, please call the office. We appreciate your support in creating a focused learning environment.
TEACHING & LEARNING FOCUS
As we approach assessment time, our teaching focus will be on Feedback and Goal Setting, helping students reflect on their progress and plan their next steps.
Additionally, we are developing educational resources to support students in building healthy and respectful peer relationships. These materials will be available to those identified through our Student Support meetings.
We look forward to a smooth end to the term and wish all our families a happy and safe break!

NEWS FROM THE 11 & 12-YEAR COORDINATOR
It is hard to believe we have already passed the halfway point of Term One! Many of our Year 11 & 12s have either completed or are completing their first assessment tasks for the year. It was amazing to see the talent of our Year 11 & 12 Performing Arts students on display at the recent IA1 Senior Performance Evening. We love celebrating student success, both inside and outside of school. If your student has recently achieved something in sport, the arts, community service, or another area, please let me know so we can recognise their efforts at our weekly year-level parades.
It has been great to see students settling into their routines, wearing the correct uniform with pride, and demonstrating our school values. Many students have already earned Culture of Learning points for their positive contributions in class, showing great enthusiasm and engagement in their learning. Each week the 10 students who received the most Culture of Learning points in the previous week go in the draw to win a $5 canteen voucher. At the end of each term students who meet the 240 point total for the term are eligible to participate in celebration activities. In addition to these activities, at the end of each semester the student with the highest number of Culture of Learning points in each of the year levels has the choice of a half price formal ticket, half price end of year trip or half price Senior Jersey.
Each week on our Year Level Parade, I speak to the Year 11 and 12s about the importance of attendance. Students are reminded of the of the school target of 90% attendance. Students are also reminded of the requirement of meeting this target to be eligible for extra-curricular activities, this includes the Formal for the Year 12s, as well as Camp and the ordering of Senior Jerseys later in the year for our Year 11s. This target is in place to ensure that our students are in class engaging in their learning to ensure every possibility of success in their chosen course of study. It is our goal that each and every Year 11 and 12 student graduates with their QCE.
Year 11 Camp has been booked for Monday 14 - Wednesday 16 July (Week 1, Term 3). The Year 11s will be heading to picturesque Maranatha Recreation Camp - Tuchekoi, in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. The cost of camp is still being finalised, however, will not exceed $300. This cost is inclusive of all accommodation, meals, activities and travel to the camp. To enable finalisation of planning for camp, could I please ask those who have yet to complete the online Expression of Interest do so by following the link that was sent home to parents last week. Students wishing to nominate for Senior Leadership positions will need to be in attendance at this camp to be considered. More information will be made available to families once we have a better idea of student numbers. Payment plans will also be able to be set up at this time.
Planning for the Year 12 Formal is in full swing. The Year 12 Formal will be held at the Brookwater Golf and Country Club on Thursday the 4th of September 2025, with arrivals from 5pm. More information will be forwarded to families as planning progresses. Thank you to everyone who supported our first Formal Fundraiser for the year by purchasing roses for Valentine’s Day. It was heart-warming to see the love spread around the school on this day.
I look forward to working with you and supporting your student throughout the year. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need assistance.

HAPPY GO LUCKY – St PATRICKS DAY
Youth Workers recently organised an exciting and fun event for our students—a Hide & Seek game. Ten little leprechauns were hidden around the school, students set out on a hunt to find them, to win a large block of chocolate.
This engaging activity was fun; also supported the wellbeing of our students. The excitement and laughter around the school brings a sense of joy and connection, fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
Thank you to all students who joined in the fun, creative and enjoyable activity. We look forward to doing more enjoyable events that brings our school community together.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC NEWS
The Instrumental Music students at Flagstone have been working hard this term, showing incredible enthusiasm and dedication to their musicianship. Our Show Band and Senior Ensemble have been making great strides in their weekly rehearsals, refining their skills and preparing for upcoming performances.
Meanwhile, our Rock Bands have also been bringing energy and creativity to their sessions, ready to impress with their dynamic sounds. A special shout out to the college Head of PE and Sports Mr Michael Trainor, who also happens to be a sensational musician and has volunteered his time to inspire and support our music students with his Electric Guitar, Drumkit and all-round music skills. The students have thoroughly enjoyed learning from his jam sessions, thanks Mr Trainor!
A key event this term is our annual Play-a-thon, an extended rehearsal on Friday, 21st March. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to focus on ensemble development, fine-tune their repertoire, and build confidence ahead of their upcoming performances. We look forward to seeing their hard work pay off on stage.
A special thank you to our Music Families and parents for their continued support. Your encouragement and involvement play a vital role in our students’ success, and we truly appreciate everything you do to help your students, and the program thrive.
Enjoy these snapshots of our talented Senior Ensemble and one of the Rock Bands in action!
