Pathways for the Future
Flagstone State Community College offers a diverse array of experiences that support our young persons to develop their talents and skills. We have established a strong network of industry and community partners that allow our students to engage in opportunities that allow them to gain feedback, coaching and experience from professionals in the industry.
Our Agriculture students have a wonderful opportunity to appear on the nationally broadcast television show Landline. Our agriculture students will be captured learning around apiary ( bee keeping) and showcasing how our college is working with industry to train and prepare our young people for a future in agriculture and farming.
This week we have our NRL partners Tigers Football club running a workshop with our Year 7 & 8 Rugby League students. Such engagement allows our students to gain expert coaching and also to learn about the process for selection in professional football.
Our partnership with the NFL has supported student Jaydan Scanlan trial for a college football scholarship and assist in realising his dream to play professional football in the USA. This trial is in Hawaii and we wish him all the best in this trial.
Students in the Arts have participated in several dance competitions this term including Dance Fusion and BPAC. These opportunities are providing students with experience in the competitive dance world gaining valuable feedback and coaching to further their ability and readiness to engage in the professional world of Dance. Meanwhile, our drama students represented the school with pride performing in the Beenleigh Eisteddfod, again accessing valuable feedback from industry judges and experiencing the competitive world of dramatic performance. In addition, our Instrumental Music students have engaged in local performances and attended QPAC to learn about the life of being a professional concert musician.
These opportunities that are supported by the dedicated teachers at Flagstone SCC are allowing our students to apply their learnings in real world contexts, bridging the gap between the Australian curriculum and the future world of work. It is equipping them with the connections, knowledge and understanding around the process and pathways that one takes to be successful in their fields of endeavour. It is assisting them to build a profile for themselves as an artist, athlete, or learner and supporting them to achieve the dreams and aspirations they have of themselves.
These students are to be congratulated for representing the school with pride, showcasing to industry and community that students at Flagstone SCC are collaborative, talented and dedicated.

YEAR 10 PARENT INFORMATION EVENING:
Exciting times over the last two weeks of school for term two. Year 10 students are participating in work experience either out in the community, or work experience activities in the school in Week 9. Over half of our cohort have been lucky enough to experience the world of work in a variety of careers during this week, and I am looking forward to the feedback about the experience. Meanwhile our students not attending work experience have been having some similar experiences and getting work ready while at school.
Week 10 sees ramping up for subject information leading into subject selection next term. On Tuesday night students and parents of year 10 are asked to join the teams meeting invite sent to their student’s email addresses to listen to our offerings for 2026. We will cover pathway options, the QCE, general and applied subjects, and Certificate (VET) courses that we have available. On top of this students will be able to book the setp interviews through SOBs from after this presentation. I look forward to 100% of parent/student involvement.
YAR 11 NEWS:
While I take a week’s leave at the start of term three, this coincides with our senior leadership camp for year 11 students. I’m excited to say that we are running this year, and I look forward to seeing the growth in our students during this three-day camp at the start of term three. I will be visiting the camp at some stage while it is on and am looking forward to this.
The end of term two also sees the first real juncture to review student outcomes. I have seen a number of significant improvements so far with our year 11 cohort in terms of results, and hope this continues at reporting time. I know that HODs are working with students in Maths and English particularly to ensure they are in the right classes after this first semester.
YEAR 12 NEWS:
We are heading towards the end of year 12 really quickly. Our year 12 students have been taking part in Master classes to focus on skills in particular subjects. Next term, there are activities on every week aimed at preparing for external exams, as well as activities based on feedback from a student survey about what they wished to know to prepare them for the future. I am looking forward to seeing the year 12 students participate in the activities that they asked for.
External exams have been published and students have access to them. It is a busy time in term four and we will keep you updated with all the supports and expectations we have over the next 17 school weeks in term three and four.

NEWS FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL YEAR 7
This year I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the newest members of our FSCC community, witnessing their classroom engagement, as well as watching them enjoy the large campus and the open spaces of the Year 7 area and the Oval. It feels like just yesterday they were walking the red carpet for their first day, and now here we are, reaching the end of their first semester.
READY TO LEARN – BIG 4
As we approach the end of Semester 1, our year 7 students have been diligently preparing for class by bringing along their Big 4 essentials: laptop, diary, notebook, and pencil case. The Year 7 classrooms are characterised by an emphasis on the development of inquiring students who are assessment literate learners. Being prepared for class with all the correct materials is the first step to engaging in the deep learning that occurs across the curriculum areas.
END OF SEMESTER HIGHLIGHTS
This term, our Year 7 students have shown outstanding dedication and enthusiasm across all areas of school life. Their positive behaviour and consistent effort in class have earned them hundreds of Culture of Learning points; an incredible testament to their focus and commitment to college values. This term we’re excited to celebrate the incredible efforts of our students at Flagstone State Community College with an Inflatables Rewards Day!
This day is all about recognising and rewarding our students for living our college expectations:
- Learn
- Do our best
- Respect self and others
- Respect our college
MOBILE PHONES
Thank you to the students who have been doing a fantastic job of keeping their phones turned off and Away for the Day from 9 am to 3 pm. If parents or guardians need to get in touch during school hours this can be done easily through the school office. Students who do not comply with the Away for the Day policy will be required to hand in their phones as part of their engagement in the school. These students will be given a lockable pouch to store the phone in before it is handed in to the office.
FINAL ASSESSMENTS
As we move into the final weeks I would to encourage our year 7 students to focus on your final projects and assessments for semester 2. I am looking forward to seeing the results for our students and celebrating their hard work.

SENIOR SCHOOLING NEWS

YEAR 12
The year 12s are now working hard to pass all their subjects to gain the valuable QCE credits to pass their final year of schooling. The Queensland Certificate is undertaken over the two years of year 11 and 12 and every subject passed at a C or higher adds credits. I am busy re-calculating ever year 12 student’s points based on term 2 results and will be notifying parents and students if I feel intervention is needed. We want to see all our students succeeding.
If you are concerned that your year 12 student is not on track to gain their QCE because their report card has more than one NA or U for effort, please feel free to telephone me, or make an appointment to see me and I can calculate their expected points based on their current results. Remember, mountains look high only from the valleys. There are many support options at Flagstone, and it is important to access them early. Attendance is a major contributor to ultimate success and students need to be at school and attending every lesson to ensure they receive the maximum benefit.
This year, Year 12s are being rewarded with a free period every Wednesday and those students who have finished their Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways and are up to date in all their subjects can gain another free period on Tuesdays. These free periods are for the student to work at improving their results through study in the library or at home. Or students can use this time to catch up on their School Based Traineeship hours. But if a student falls behind in any of their subjects, they will be required to stay at school during those flexible times.
Students who have gained the extra time on Tuesday are still requested to attend the seminars and Master classes we have set on Tuesdays at 1.30pm. These sessions are designed to allow students to hone the skills they will need to be successful in the upcoming external exams. The calendar for these sessions has been sent to all students.
All students need to commit to every lesson through 100% attendance. Past history year after year shows that the highest achievers attended every lesson and did an average minimum of five hours home-work/study per day every day. High achievers do NOT miss lessons to study. Study is always in addition to lessons!! To do otherwise indicates very poor time-management and a poor use of resources.
Year 12 is a marathon and as such, students need to maintain a healthy lifestyle and work life balance. Part time jobs should be in addition to studies but not at the expense of study or sleep time. Parents, please praise your student often for their efforts.
Whether your student is studying to gain entry into a university course or working at a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship or working to gain their QCE, we need to work together as a team to ensure success for every student, every day.
ASSESSMENTS
In the QCE, there are set requirements that must be met and strict rules surrounding assessment. If a student in Years 11 or 12 does not submit assessment on time, or is absent from a scheduled exam, under the QCE rules, they will not be rated for that part of the unit they are working on. This could hinder a student’s ability to pass that subject in that unit. Unfortunately, a “Not Rated” could very well cause a student to fail that subject!
If a student did not submit assessment, they must submit an AARA (Access and arrangement for reasonable adjustment) form to allow an extension or comparable exam to gain a mark for that Unit.
Please ensure your student attends all exams and submits assessment on the due dates or contact me to discuss an AARA to support the student learning.
YEAR 11
Most of the year 11s have settled well in their subjects and are enjoying the new challenges that the 2 years of the QCE brings. Subject changes are not possible until after the Units have ended this term and students must remember that every subject passed adds points towards the QCE. They need to strive to pass in these subjects even if they plan to change to ensure they can gain that first QCE credit.
Year 11s are who are looking to follow a Leadership path will soon be bringing home applications for Leadership positions. Please discuss the requirements of a leader with your student as they will be considering applying for School Captains and House Captains through the Leadership system. I wish all our aspiring leaders good luck in in their efforts.
In Year 11, students will be undertaking the Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways, which will give them 4 QCE credits this year outside of those they gain from their subjects.
All students need to commit to every lesson through 100% attendance and commit to their homework and addition study to achieve well.
STUDENT DRIVERS
If your student has a driver’s licence and they will be driving to and from school, it is a requirement that you complete a "Student Driver Permission" form from the office and return it as soon as possible. We must have this information before students can park their cars in the car park. In addition, if you allow your student to have other students as passengers in their car (even if it is their brother or sister) you must add their names to the form.
A separate form must be completed by the parents of each passenger in a student driver’s car to ensure that they agree with their student being in that car. If you plan for your student to be a passenger in a student driven car, you must get the form from the office and have it signed. All signed forms must be lodged in the office.
UNIQUE STUDENT IDENTIFIER
All year 11 and 12 and some year 10 students who are completing certificates should have their Unique Student Identifier number which they will need for all certificate courses and further education. This is done by logging onto the Unique Student Identifier website at http://www.usi.gov.au/Pages/default.aspx and clicking create a USI number.
As soon as your student has their USI number, please have them write it down and give a copy of it to the office or the Senior Schooling HOD for our records. Students are required by law to have and provide their USI number. Students without a USI number cannot be issued with certificates for any certificate courses they are doing either here at school or at an outside RTO.
In conclusion, I am really proud of how the senior students in the school have stepped up to behaving and dressing for success. Students are wearing their uniform with pride and are working hard to meet their targets and goals. The pathways that these young people are treading today should lead them to where they want to be and together with your help, we are giving them the habits that lead to success.

UPDATE FROM THE YEAR 11 & 12 YEAR COORDINATOR
100 DAYS CELEBRATION!
Time is flying for our Seniors! On Thursday the 5th of June the Year 12s gathered in the Hall to mark 100 school days until Graduation! To celebrate our School Captains cut a cake specially made to mark the occasion. Cupcakes were devoured while soaking in the electric atmosphere and posing for photos with the giant 100 balloons. It was a fantastic celebration filled with laughter, and a reminder of how close we are to the momentous day. The countdown to Graduation is officially on!!

YEAR 11 CAMP – A GREAT START TO TERM 3!
The forms are in and a fantastic group of Year 11 students will kick off Term 3 with camp at Maranatha Recreation Camp – Tuchekoi, nestled in the beautiful Sunshine Coast Hinterland. We will be departing at 8am on Monday the 14th of July and returning on Wednesday the 16th by approximately 3pm. It will be cold, so be sure to pack plenty of warm clothes!
I would like to extend our sincere thanks to the following generous sponsors, whose support has helped reduce the cost of the camp for our Year 11 families:
- Natalie Willcocks, Councillor for Division 11, Logan City Council
- Charis Mullen MP, State Member for Jordan
- PEET Flagstone
I am very much looking forward to spending three days with our Year 11s in such a beautiful setting—it's shaping up to be an unforgettable experience!

UNIFORM REMINDER – WINTER HAS ARRIVED!
The cold weather is here! We’d like to remind families that Flagstone State Community College is a uniform school, and all students are expected to follow our set dress standards. This includes wearing uniform-compliant jumpers and trackpants during the colder months. Jumpers and track pants are to be navy blue. Non-uniform outerwear is not permitted and students may be asked to remove items that do not meet the uniform policy.
We understand that, at times, families may face challenges in accessing uniform items or essential school equipment. If your child requires temporary uniform assistance, or if financial barriers exist, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are here to support you and can help make arrangements to ensure all students are comfortable, warm, and in full uniform.

Thank you for your ongoing support in maintaining the high standards and sense of belonging at our school.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need assistance.

MUSIC
In Week 2, our Senior Music and Junior Dance students wowed the audience at Flagstone State School with a vibrant performance. The energy was high, and the students did a fantastic job—congratulations to all involved!

In Week 5, our Music students also attended Art of the Score: The Music of Hans Zimmer concert performed by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra at the Queensland Performance Arts Centre. The concert featured some of Zimmer’s most iconic and unforgettable pieces – highlights included The Long King Suite and the thrilling Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. It was a day full of fun learning experience for our students!

Our Junior Music students have also been busy honing their practical skills on a variety of instruments, including piano, guitar, electric guitar, and drums. This term, they focused on performing as a band, and it’s been inspiring to see their collaboration and growth. It has been rewarding to see how far they’ve come!

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC NEWS
A MEMORABLE MUSICAL EXPERIENCE WITH THE QUEENSLAND SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
On Friday 23 May, we had the wonderful opportunity to take our music students on an inspiring excursion to see the Queensland Symphony Orchestra perform Hans Zimmer: The Art of the Score – Film Music at QPAC, South Bank. This extraordinary concert celebrated the work of legendary film composer Hans Zimmer and was a truly unforgettable experience for us all.
The performance featured some of Zimmer’s most iconic music, and we were absolutely captivated by the orchestra, with highlights such as The Lion King Suite, which stirred emotion and nostalgia, and the thrilling Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which had us all on the edge of our seats. Hearing these powerful film scores performed live by a world-class orchestra was nothing short of breathtaking.
The excursion proved to be both educational and inspiring. We gained a greater understanding of how music enhances storytelling in film and witnessed the incredible skill and teamwork involved in professional orchestral performance which was conducted by Vanessa Scammell. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to connect what they’re learning in school to the real world of music performance.
Mr Campbell, Miss Sung and myself were incredibly proud of how well-behaved, respectful, and engaged our students were throughout the day. They represented our school beautifully and showed genuine enthusiasm and curiosity. It was clear that everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience—and many left feeling creatively inspired and more passionate than ever about music, composing and film scores.
Appreciation to those families and caregivers for supporting their students on this excursion.

NATIONALLY CONSISTENT COLLECTION OF DATA ON SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH DISABILITY (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).
Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.

YEAR 7 SCIENCE NEWS
Our Grade 7 students recently explored the fascinating world of Biology, investigating the finer details of life invisible to the naked eye through microscopes. From plant cells to tiny organisms—including some insects they captured themselves—they were captivated by what they discovered and the intricate details they could see. With curiosity and enthusiasm, they eagerly examined slide after slide, asking insightful questions and collecting leaves, dirt, and puddle water to investigate further. It was a hands-on experience that sparked wonder and deepened their appreciation for Science and the world around them.

KEEPING ROUTINES IN THE HOLIDAYS
FROM ED SERVICES
As we approach the end of term and look forward to the holidays, it's normal to feel excited about a break from school schedules and daily demands. Holidays offer a much-needed chance to rest and reset — but it's also a time when our usual routines can easily slip away.
Sleep-ins turn into late nights, meals become irregular, screen time can increase, and it’s easy to lose track of time. While some flexibility is part of the fun of holidays, maintaining some basic structure during the break can make a big difference to our wellbeing.
Here are a few gentle reminders for keeping balance over the holidays:
- Stick to a sleep routine
Try to keep wake-up and bedtime within a reasonable range of your usual schedule. Quality sleep supports your mood, energy, and mental health.
- Eat regularly
Holidays can bring abnormal mealtimes. Aim for regular, nourishing meals and snacks to keep energy levels up.
- Keep Moving
Without school sports or daily routines, physical activity can drop off. Find simple ways to stay active — a walk, swim, bike ride, or YouTube and Netflix have some great guided workouts you can do from your living room!
- Stay Connected
Social connection is important! Look for time with friends or family, whether in person or online, to reduce feelings of loneliness and boost your wellbeing.
- Balance Your Screen Time
Extra screen time is on the holidays is common, but too much can negatively impact your sleep and mood. Make time for tech-free activities to rest your eyes and mind. This is particularly important before you go to bed. Did you know that your phone emits a blue light that releases a chemical in your brain that keeps you awake at night!
Returning to school is always easier when the transition isn’t too abrupt. Some structure over the break can help everyone start the new term feeling more settled, focused, and ready to learn.
FREE COUNSELLING SUPPORT
From next term, Flagstone State Community College has partnered with The Street University and NOFFS to provide a free counselling services for those experiencing difficulties with alcohol and/or other drugs and related concerns. Their counsellors will facilitate appointments at school and offer online counselling services too.
We encourage students aged 16 and over to reach out directly if they feel this service could support them. For students under 16, we’ll work together with parents or guardians to ensure the right support is in place.
For more information, please contact Jared or Amanda (Guidance Officers) located in Ed Services.
